What Kit Do I Need to Start Training in Muay Thai?

Are you ready to dive into the exciting world of Muay Thai?

Congratulations on taking the first step towards enhancing your fitness and getting into the art of this exhilarating combat sport.

To get started on your Muay Thai journey, here's a breakdown of the essential kit you'll need:

Beginner's Essentials:

For your first class, you won't need much in terms of gear. Simply come dressed comfortably in shorts or leggings

and a t-shirt, making sure that your shirt has no zippers or buttons that could cause discomfort during training.

Our gym will  allow you to borrow  boxing gloves for these early sessions.

Moving Forward -

Your Own Gear:

As you progress in your training and begin to explore more advanced techniques, having your own gear becomes essential.

Here's what you'll need as you become more experienced:

  1. Hand Wraps: These provide wrist support and protection for your knuckles. They're crucial for preventing injuries during training.
  2. Boxing Gloves (14oz or 16oz): Having your own gloves ensures a proper fit and hygiene. Choose a weight that suits your size and training intensity.
  3. Gum Shield: Also known as a mouthguard, this vital piece of equipment protects your teeth and jaws from impacts during sparring and drills.
  4. Shin/Instep Protectors: As you advance, shin guards become essential to shield your shins and insteps from powerful kicks and strikes.
  5. Optional Extras:
  • Groin Protector: Recommended for both male and female practitioners for added safety during sparring and training.
  • Chest Protector: Especially relevant for female practitioners, this can provide extra protection during training.

Seeking Guidance:

If you're unsure about what gear you need at different stages of your Muay Thai journey, don't hesitate to reach out to your trainers. Our instructor Jared will be more than happy to guide you through the process and provide personalized recommendations based on your training level and goals.

Remember, as you progress, investing in your own

high-quality gear will enhance your training experience and safety.

Embrace the journey, stay committed,

and enjoy the transformative benefits that Muay Thai has to offer!
